Increase Tool Life, Decrease Expense

The Client:

An Upstate New York contract machining company that works with copper.

The Challenge:

There were issues creating a thread in the part.

Drills were "loading" with chips and breaking.

Taps were "tearing" threads and at times, breaking.

The Solution:

An H&C Application Engineer suggested coating some tools with "CRN" to reduce edge buildup on the tooling. Testing to prove out new tooling.

The Benefit:

Significant improvement in quality of pre-tapped holes and threads.

Reduced tooling issues and tooling use.

-5 to 1 tool life increase with drills.

-8 to 1 toll life increase with taps.

Resulting in an overall reduction of machine time, tooling costs and an increase in productivity.
