The Client
An Upstate New York contract machining company that works with copper.
The Challenge
There were issues creating a thread in the part. Drills were "loading" with chips and breaking. Taps were "tearing" threads and at times, breaking.
The Solution
An H&C Application Engineer suggested coating some tools with "CRN" to reduce edge buildup on the tooling. Testing was done to prove out new tooling.
The Benefit
Significant improvement in quality of pre-tapped holes and threads. Reduced tooling issues and tooling use. 5 to 1 tool life increase with drills. 8 to 1 toll life increase with taps. Resulting in an overall reduction of machine time, tooling costs and an increase in productivity.
