The Trouble With Burrs
Rochester area contract manufacturer machining "high temp" alloys.
The material being used was causing issues with the threading process.
Burrs were being created at the intersections of the thread "crest".
This customer had already tried various inserts from other manufacturers but had not gotten the results they were hoping for.
One of our Apllication Engineers visited the customer to look at the issues and the process/tooling being used.
He concluded that a Kennametal "top cresting LT" style of insert would solve the problem.
There was a dramatic increase in quality of the thread and the secondary deburring operations were no longer needed.
The end result of our consultation and recommendations were a higher quality product at a reduced cost.
